In a stern statement delivered on Wednesday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson expressed his country’s unequivocal solidarity with Israel amid the current war against Hamas.
The Prime Minister cited Israel’s right to self-defense after Hamas launched rockets indiscriminately into Israeli civilian areas, stating that “it is right that they should take every action to protect their people.”
He went on to condemn the actions of Hamas as “barbaric” and “indefensible” and warned that it would not succeed in its campaign against Israel.
The Prime Minister also reiterated the UK’s commitment to a two-state solution and to a negotiated peace between Israel and the Palestinians. He called on both sides to take steps to deescalate the current crisis and urged Hamas to stop its “indiscriminate attacks”.
He praised Israel for its “targeted efforts” to avoid civilian casualties and reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
It is clear from Johnson’s comments that the UK will continue to stand behind the Jewish State as it confronts Hamas’ violence and terror. This comes as a welcome move to many in the Jewish Community in the United Kingdom, who are fearful for the safety of their Israeli counterparts during this difficult time.
