The House GOP is moving forward with their investigation into President Joe Biden’s possible involvement in his son Hunter’s schemes he used to obstruct investigations and defy subpoenas. This could be a potential impeachable offense and could add yet another obstruction-of-justice scandal for the Biden administration.
The investigation centers around how Hunter, who has been accused of corruption and of trading on his father’s power, was able to ignore various court orders to produce documents and answer questions about his business dealings. It’s alleged he was able to do so with the help of President Biden’s objections to grand jury subpoenas regarding Hunter’s business deals.
Rep. Jim Jordan, the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, told Fox News that the Biden White House’s activities are now “clearly within the scope of the investigation” and that proof of Joe Biden’s involvement could be an impeachable offense. He cited President Trump’s own impeachment proceedings for obstruction of justice.
Another Republican on the committee, Rep. Mike Johnson, said, “We want to find out what role if any the president of the United States played in something that could have been an obstruction of justice by his son.” He noted that other parts of the investigation show that the president’s son followed his father’s lead.
The subpoenas into Hunter Biden’s business activities were originally issued by the FBI during the Obama administration. Rep. Johnson stated that the subpoenas were not acted upon by the Department of Justice at the time, but the GOP lawmakers said they have uncovered evidence indicating a possible link between the current President and his son’s activities. It is now up to the Judiciary Committee to uncover the truth.
If President Biden is found to have been complicit in any kind of obstruction of justice by his son, this could result in the House of Representatives filing House-level impeachment articles against the President. While the outcome of this remains to be seen, these probes illustrate the seriousness with which the GOP views the potential misconduct of the Biden administration.
