On December 11th, Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden’s son, was indicted on two false statement gun charges by a grand jury in Delaware. The charges stem from a 2018 purchase of a handgun from retail store.
According to Court documents, Hunter Biden answered “No” when asked if he was an unlawful user of a controlled substance on his Firearms Transaction Record. Furthermore, the document states that his response was false, as he admitted to the Delaware State Police that he was addicted to illicit drugs.
The Delaware Justice Department, which completed the investigation into the gun purchase, has not released the exact drugs Hunter Biden admitted to using, but did say that they could not be prescribed.
The two gun charges, each of which carries a maximum of five years in prison, are the only criminal charges Hunter Biden is currently facing. Since the purchase purportedly occurred two years ago, it is unclear why he was just now indicted.
Either way, the charges are sure to create yet another potential scandal for the Biden White House as Hunter Biden prepares to possibly face several months in prison if convicted. Supporters of the Biden family will also be quick to note that this isn’t the only legal issue that Hunter Biden has had to face in recent years.
Whether Hunter Biden’s legal issues will become a distraction for the President during his first term remains to be seen. For now, we have to wait and see how the Biden White House will respond, as well as how the Delaware courts will act in regards to Hunter Biden’s case.
