In a twist of events, the poll workers that Rudy Giuliani and his allies defamed with false accusations of election fraud are now suing the polarizing attorney again. These three workers were subject to a flurry of death threats and vitriolic attacks from conspiracy theorists and Giuliani’s myriad of sycophants for their alleged role in “stealing” the 2020 Presidential election. Since then, they have filed libel suits against the lawyer and his allies after being defamed all over social media. In May 2021, they were awarded a significant sum of 148 million dollars in a settlement from those responsible for the defamation campaign. However, upon further investigation by these workers, Rudy Giuliani still apparently had a hand in propagating his baseless claims about election fraud. Now they are suing him again for participating in the continued libel against their characters.
These workers, who wish to remain anonymous, have made it clear that they are fighting for more than just vindication of the horrible treatment they endured. Instead, they are doing this to demonstrate — no matter how powerful the perpetrators might be —that truth will prevail. Hopefully, this ongoing suit will further wound the already wounded credibility of Giuliani and discourage future politicians or public figures from engaging in similar libel campaigns against innocent people. There is a legal process for airing grievances in the United States and, ultimately, the poll workers want to showcase that it not only applies to individuals but to those in powerful positions as well.
