For the past few weeks, the political world has been talking about President Trump’s improving approval rating, whether it’s due to public amnesia or genuine approval of his policies and performance. Despite regular criticism from opponents, the 45th President of the United States has managed to defy the expectations of skeptics and maintain high approval from his base.
While some attribute the rise in Trump’s ratings to public amnesia in terms of his past transgressions, others assert that the President has indeed improved his handling of domestic and international affairs during his time in office. There are several statistics pointing towards this recent rise in support for the administration, which despite initial bumps in the road appears to have been on a steady ascent since late 2019.
The most obvious data point showing the president’s improved image is the Gallup daily survey which shows his approval rating has risen from a low of 36% in 2017 to a high of 49% in 2020. This is considered to be the highest rating Trump has seen since shortly after his inauguration.
In addition to the Gallup survey, other polls such as the Rasmussen poll, conducted exclusively for the White House, also show the president’s approval ratings are on the rise. The Rasmussen poll also shows that President Trump’s job approval rating has also risen over the past few months, from a low of 43% in January to an incredible 51% in late May.
What’s more, the polls also show that President Trump’s favorable ratings have also increased, from a low of 37% in 2016 to a high of 54% in April of this year. This indicates that not only is the President winning over the members of his base but also winning over the hearts and minds of some of his critics.
It is clear that President Donald Trump has made some changes that have resulted in a considerably higher approval rating from both his base and his opponents. Whether it is due to genuine approval of his policies, public amnesia in terms of his past, or a combination of the two, it appears that the 45th President of the United States has developed a more favorable image in the eyes of the American public.
